2022 was another incredible year for boutique home video releases, from upgraded classics to meticulously restored schlock. As the holiday season approaches (and year-end sales kick into high gear), Evan looks at some of 2022’s collectible highlights to help you make informed decisions. This segment covers box sets, Criterion Collection editions and select releases from Arrow Films.

Notes: I recommend reading my in-depth review, which I’m pretty proud of, but I made sure to put this at the top of my holiday gift guide because it is by far the best release of the year. Although the film selection is better geared for those already familiar with Shaw Brothers’ golden age (and early-1980s decline), it’s definitely the best bang for the collector’s buck, with 14 films contained in a gorgeous boxset along with an extremely substantial booklet. I’d recommend starting with last year’s Shawscope: Volume One, but if you already liked that one, you have no excuse not to grab this one. Or just grab both!
